Malvern Hills Intergroup Walk

Date: Saturday 11th January 2025
Location: Malvern, England
Event: Intergroup Walk

On Saturday 11th January 2025, 30 men gathered on a car park in Malvern, a large percentage of them had, until this day, never met in person. They came from many towns across the country, towns where we have weekly mens walking groups. It was a great chance for us to meet each other and spend a day walking over The Malvern Hills.

We set off at 10:30 and headed toward the mist covered hills. Spirits were high as we left the main roads and started to ascend the steeper roads leading to the hills. We soon left these roads behind and found ourselves on well walked footpaths, after about a mile the terrain opened up to give us the most stunning view of a cloud inversion that stretched for miles. I think it is safe to say that every one of of us was quite taken with this sight. After a brief stop for many photos we pressed on around the back of North Hill, where out of the sun, the temperature dropped, which pushed us on to find the sun again around the other side of Table Hill. We took a short break at about 2 miles in and spent some time admiring the incredible scenery, posing for group photos and taking on refreshments.

On we pushed, in and out of the sun, up and over Sugarloaf Hill and then finally the push to the main summit and highest point in the county, Worcestershire Beacon. The views from the top were quite simply breathtaking. We found some places to sit and all broke for some well deserved lunch.

After lunch we all set off down to make our way for a well earned libation. We were treated to some competitive downhill running from our military contingent, which hilariously nearly ended up with them both going A over T! They survived and we all had a good laugh. A great walk down off the hills and back into town, soon found us at our final destination for a refreshing drink, food for some and great conversations all around.

Many thanks to all who involved in making this such an amazing day.

With thanks Dan, Mark, Andy, Ash & Dave (MWAT Directors)
