Group Leader
NEW WALK STARTING THURSDAY 1ST OCTOBER 2026
I’m Michael and I’m the group leader for the Men Walking & Talking Cramlington Group.
I am neurodivergent and have struggled with my mental health for most of my adult life. In 2019 I began engaging with peer support groups with some success but never really found anything where I’m truly comfortable. I joined the Blyth group in Easter of 2026 and very quickly felt a part of the community – I think because I am at my most comfortable outdoors and talking shoulder to shoulder rather than face to face. In fact most of my working life has been spent outdoors and working with people (not bad for someone as shy as me). For the last 15 years I have worked with schools and community groups on various cycling activities. Although it’s enjoyable work it comes with its challenges, however dealing with those challenges has helped me grow as a person and build confidence in what I’m able to achieve.
I reached the point recently where I felt I needed another positive challenge and to do something of my own decision rather than someone else’s request. Recognising the need for more peer support in the area led me to approaching Men Walking And Talking to set up this group.
