WALK CHANGE INFORMATION
From the 1st August 2024, this walk will move from Tuesday’s to Thursday’s, with the start time remaining the same at 18:30
Hi, my name is Chris and I am the walk leader for the Penrith group of MWAT. I am 41 years old and an Occupational Therapist/trauma therapist supporting children, teens and adults with their mental health.
My background and experience in mental health came from working in various mental health services in London. This provided me with an insight into what was involved and needed when working with male clients experiencing mental health difficulties. It also showed me how men tend to struggle more to express their emotions and also self regulate. From working in this type of environment and city life I experienced my own mental health difficulties and burnout and as a result of this I took a break from my role and moved abroad to recover and start my healing journey.
I wanted to start this walking group as I noticed that in my local community there are no casual walking and talking groups specifically for Men, that could provide them a step towards supporting their Mental health and their well-being. This included a mens walking and talking group that could continue to promote the awareness that is needed around Men’s mental health.
The group provides an opportunity for men to help them take their first step towards showing up for themselves, having a safe container where they can walk and talk and share what they feel without any judgement. This includes meeting others with similar or different lived experiences.
The group meets every Tuesday at 7pm, so if you feel this is something you want to try and feels aligned for you then come along and join in.
